Week 7 - Love,Bored,Trouble,Heaven!

Currently Listening To : Myra - Miracles Do Happen

Jammy has been feeling pretty melancholic at late. (That explains the really cute fan-made compilation) All the lovely couples walking hand in hand; kissing by the side-walks; cycle together on a same bike like a British style movie. Geeeez! I guess it’s the time of the year again, is it? Love is definitely in the air and you can’t blame jammy for his itchy heart. To top it all off, my 19-year-old freshman colleague got married last week to his high school sweetheart of 2years. AWHHHHHHHHHHHH…….! I didn’t attend the wedding reception but there’s no doubt that everyone’s really happy for them. Congrats to the newly wed! Owh, there was a Rwandan marriage by the church just yesterday, too! Yes, they’re students of OC.

So the only reason why I’m writing today is because I’m not away to Texas. It was a tough call for me to abandon all plans and just… stay back to this “graveyard like” atmosphere. The campus is practically empty. There’s prolly 20 people max left in college – 4 of them Malaysians. Mark had to stay back due to overload of assignments and upcoming examinations. Nick couldn’t make it to Kansas cos’ he had a test on Friday – his friend had to leave for Kansas on Wed. Ivan was second on the waiting list to Texas. Unfortunately, he didn’t make the cut cos’ everyone was dead-on going. As for me, God prolly loves me too much – SO MUCH MORE THAN ANYONE OF YOU OUT THERE – that He had to reward me with 3 lovely mid-term exams on the 3 consecutive day right after the fall break. Plus, handsome looking assignments with a capital “S” behind.

No question asks, I bonded really well with my new “friends” over the break. I know I should be studying right now but… WHO COULD? Trust me, you just feel so de-motivated whenever you pick up a pen and write. =/ Nonetheless, I managed to complete the ones that are due on Sunday (I got classes to attend on Sunday – be amaze!) and a couple of which that’ll be on my test on Thu. It’s pretty complicated, but thankfully I got all the time I need to brainstorm over it.

So since EVERYONE is away, we had the entire campus to ourselves. We hang most of the time since we’ve got ourselves left to entertain each other with. On Friday night, we (Jammy, Nick, Mark, Henry, Antony) thought of just hanging by the student center since there’s no one using it. Plus, it was already past midnight then. Henry & Antony cycled into the carpeted student center for the fun of it. Nick later swing by with the pool set and thus, we begin playing pool. Since there was 5 of us, ‘twas 2vs2. I opted out the first round. So since there were awesome looking bicycles around, I thought of just cycling back to Vivian’s dorm to catch up with her as she was bored, too. I only manage to wish her goodnight in the end cos’ there’s alarm system at the girl’s dorm and you can’t enter. I ended up going back to the student center since there was nothing left to do. I knew we ain’t allow to cycle INTO the carpeted student center, but since Henry and Anthony first cycled in, I can’t just leave the bike out there. Moreover, I don’t have a lock for it and it’s not even Henry’s bike. So, after much debate with my conscience, I just go with the conventional “Put back where you take your things from” and cycle into the student center. Of course, they weren’t done with the pool game yet. I then try to ease sudden boredom by cycling around within the student center. As I cycle down the isle, I saw an old man checking on doors. Natural instinct tells me that it’s a security guard. I’m pretty sure that old security guard saw me, too. I quickly cycle back to the pool table and notify them that there’s a security guard checking on doors. After about 3mins, that old man murmured something across the hall. What we heard was, “Snap the lights when you’re out.” That’s what ALL 5 of us heard. So we all replied a courteous, “Yes, Sir!” across the hall – although we weren’t sure of what he actually said. He left by the door at the other end and we continued with the game. I came down of the bike and was just sitting while watching them on the game. Minutes later, that fat old security guard came back in. Walk right up to us. Shouted in front of our face, “I’M TAKING THESE BIKES!” We were of course in shock since it was so impromptu.

“What’s wrong, sir?” Mark politely asked.

The grumpy fat old security guard said “I said get rid of the bikes, didn’t you guys listen?”

“What? We heard you said snap the lights. We didn’t even know we aren’t allowed to cycle inside as we see people cycling in here with security guards around and they didn’t do anything.” replied Antony.

“How old are you?”

“20?”

“Are you sure? You sure didn’t act your age by trying to be ignorant!”

“—I’m taking the bikes. “

“Sir, these aren’t our bikes! It belongs to our RAs. They’re off for fall break and we’re just borrowing them.” pleaded Henry.

“Yes, sir! We’re sorry. We’re international students and we need these bikes to get around to places.” Mark added.

“Yea, sorry sir. So can we have our bikes back?” Henry quickly add.

“NO! I’m taking these bikes with me. Don’t even think of running away with these bikes tonight.”

Henry was really agitated already.

“RUNNING AWAY? NO, we won’t run away. Where can we run to? Geeez!” Henry said impatiently.

“Don’t try to be ignorant.” said the old fat security guard.

“WHAT? IGNORANT?! ARE YOU CALLING US INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS STUPID?!” Mark screamed across that fat old security guard.

“—IS IT?! IS IT?!”

“No…”

“BUT YOU’RE CALLING US IGNORANT! WHY’D YOU EVEN BRING THAT UP?!” Mark blasted carelessly.

“You brought it up.” The fat old security guard replied.

“NO I DIDN’T! WHAT THE HECK?! I SAID WE INTERNATIONALS NEED THE BIKE TO GET AROUND. SINCE WHEN I SAID WE WERE IGNORANT?!” Mark already lose it by then.

“—SO YOU’RE CALLING US STUPID, IS IT?”

“That’s exactly what I’m saying. How about that?” said he IGNORANT fat old security guard.

“—can I see your (point Henry) ID please?”

“What? What you gonna do with it?”

“So I can report you to DEAN ARTER” the IGNORANT FAT OLD SECURITY GUARD said confidently.

“Owh, I would love to have a good talk with Mr.Dean Arter.”

*fatman took Henry’s ID no.

“NOW GET THE DAMN BIKES OUT OF HERE.”

“Yes we will.” Mark commented sarcastically.

“JUST SO YOU KNOW, WE AIN’T STUPID!! AND WE DIDN’T EVEN HEARD WHAT YOU SAID ACROSS THE ROOM!” Henry shouted back at that fatman as he was walking away.

“HENRY, HE ASKED US TO GET THE DAMN BIKES OUT OF HERE. LET’S GO!” Mark said sarcastically aloud once again.

*We all left.

Much have been said about the attitudes of our uni’s security guard, but who would’ve thought they were THIS BAD and irrational? Calling us stupid was probably the turning point that snap Mark & Henry up cos’ they’re standing up for us internationals. To me, that security guard was being racist! Just because we are all yellow and he’s white. Goshhhh… We immediately recall the immediate events and filed a report to the Head of Student Associations. Seriously, I thought it was pretty uncalled for. That security guard probably had a bad day? But he didn’t had to spoiled our entire fall break for us. Mark & Henry was fuming! If you think both Mark & Henry have a lil’ attitude and mouth problem, you prolly need to put yourselves in their shoes. Or rather, OUR shoes when someone called you STUPID directly in your face when there’s a clear “double-standard” in terms of the security guards style of governing. I admit, we as human beings tend to jump on the bandwagon, a lot! But the others do so under DAYLIGHT with guards around and still not get caught; I truly believe that FAT OLD SECURITY GUARD was just flippin’ bored himself. Besides, he should mind his language and leads by example himself. Not go around calling people stupid and swearing damn – it’s a bad word here in America – when we were all already being so cooperative and continuously apologizing for our misjudge.

What a way to experience our very first fall break, eyh? Haha!

So donkey news aside. Since it’s the fall break, everyone’s away – that of course includes the people who works at the cafĂ©. That just means we don’t have food! Since we Malaysian boys are such terrible cook PLUS, we don’t have a kitchen to do so, we decided to go out for dinner. B’fast & lunch are all junk food unfortunately. We wanted to try the Indian restaurant at Boulevard. It’s either not open cos’ of fall break or it’s closed down foreal. But we didn’t manage to try it. We end up in Dot Wo – Chinese restaurant. Don’t ask if it’s good? Cos’ I guess you know the answer. =/ I ordered curry chicken but it was horrendous. EEEEEEKKKK! It’s like… curry power. But I’ve to say that Americans cook good sesame chicken. Haha!

Today however, we had Brums for b’fast! Thanks to Donny, Brad, & Luna bringing us all there after church. Well, it’s not that far.. But still… they’re such good people even when they’re big shots at big company (All OC grads) but still remain a heart to serve. We had typical American meal. Speaking of Braums, they produce GOOD AWESOME ice cream! Personally, I think it somehow taste better than BR. Haha! If only I could tapau some for you guys. Heeeee! Been having too much of Braums ice cream at late. =/ Ultra-fattening!

Dinner was at Fong’s Kitchen at downtown Oklahoma City. =) It’s a Chinese restaurant and guess what they sell? Glorious CHAR SIEW! Haha! I haven’t had roast pork for 2months now. It’s about time! Nick, Ivan, and I went with the same bunch of church people again. We ordered dishes like the night before at Dot Wo. However, a little more “lucrative” this time round. Haha! We had CHAR SIEW, fried PIGEON, WAT TAN HO, roast chicken, pork with oyster sauce, beef nerves, friend toufu, garlic chicken. Ahhhhh… Heaven yo! =D

I guess it’s true when they say that it’s the closest cooking compared to real Chinese food. Not the best in my opinion but definitely good compared to American standard! Seriously, it feels like my system’s running again. No kidddd. =)

Lastly, I’ve just recently sign myself up for kids mentoring along with Anna, Ping Ping, Megan, Kelsey, Kimber, Jessica. Funny how I’m the only guy? But whatever… kids motivated me, not the girls! You wondered, what’s kid mentoring? Basically, it’s about being a mentor to a kid at this kindergarten called Western Village Academy. Those are kids who have “multiple shift” in life. Probably a broken family or death of either one of their parents? Well, of course there’re normal kids in there as well. Our job is to be SOMEONE that they could talk to when needed. Also, our job is to make sure they keep up with their academic problems, play with them, not stand in for their loss, instead, be someone whom they can rely on. I really like the idea of mentoring a kid and that prolly provides me with a glimpse of fatherhood? The kids over at the kindergarten age range from 3-9. Nursery to 3rd Grade to be exact.

How’d you choose your kid? Well, it’s based on the time you can go each week to attend to your kid. My schedule’s pretty tight, but I managed to squeeze 1hr of my Tue schedule in between 11:30am-1pm to go over to the kindergarten to work with my kid. Kelsey was really sweet to offer both Megan & I a ride over every Tue which really help solve the rest of my transportation issues. Ahhh!

The kid assigned to me is an African American name William Fraizer – Will in short. Apparently his hobbies are to PLAY CATCH, PLAY VIDEO GAME, AND WATCH TV. Geeez! I guess I’m gonna have a handful! Haha. It’ll be fun if his hobby is to watch Disney cos’ I like Disney! Hahaha! Oh well, I’ll have a picture of him up as soon as I start my first session on the 22nd of Oct. Definitely will keep you guys update on my kid. He’s gonna rock so hard! ROFL.

Ahhh… So I guess that brings an end to my week. Sure looks eventful! Haha. I’ve gotta start making myself to study for the upcoming tests. Won’t be tough, but I want that 100%! =) We’ll seeeee…

OWHHHH, HOW CAN I FORGET? IT’S MY BROTHER’S B’DAY TODAY!

Happy 20th B’day fatty! You’re almost entirely legal already… Better buck up and start thinking yo! Have a great one big fella!* =)

Look forward to the week ahead! Love all your sugars.

Lots of love,

JammyG
